My Papaw’s passing this past weekend has been an I was taught to think before I act shirt confusing mixture of emotions for me. People say that you must cry and mourn to move on and that that is the true gesture invalidating your love and respect for whoever passed. This only made me feel shame.

Not because I found myself frivolously seeking some kind of validation in “mourning correctly”, but because I had I was taught to think before I act shirt already forgotten that my Papaw taught me that no two people can ever be the same. I’ve come to realize that Papaw taught me some of life’s most desired and paramount lessons without even using a word. With this understanding, my mind was immediately and effortlessly bombarded with countless memories that I have had with my giant, crazy family at my Papaw’s house.
